FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

1.  Can anyone join the club?       Yes!

2.  How much are the annual dues?     $12/year,  every August and when you first join.

3.  May I attend the club’s general meetings, even if I’m not a member ?    Yes.  All our speaker’s presentations are free and open to the public.

4.  How do I join?   Get your $12 payment and  a completed application form to us.  Pay (cash or check) at one of our meetings, or during our annual Plant Sale, OR, mail (a check) and the completed form to us at this address:  CGCofCW,   PO Box 746, Washougal, WA  98671.     The Membership Application Form may be found here:  https://gardenclubofcamaswashougal.org/membership/  

5.  Benefits of joining the club (and paying dues):

  • attend field trips & picnics at public & private gardens, nurseries and gardening events (some paid by club);
  • receive club newsletters & announcements & chat in our private Facebook group;
  • attend member-only events such as wreath making, flower arranging, making tufa planters & more;
  • learn and/or teach gardening techniques – sowing, digging, dividing, potting up, hints, show-n-tell, tending;
  • join the fun at our annual PLANT SALE every May – from growing to selling plants;
  • plant daffodils, tend & prune roses & rhododendrons with other members at our beautification projects;
  • help select grants for schools & other entities;
  • meet & make new gardening friends;
  • got a gardening idea?   Make motions & vote to direct club’s activities and monies & be a board member.

6.  Can I join in June, July or December, when there are no regular club meetings or if I missed the monthly general meetings?  Those months are our “down time”, so, no.  Please, come to the next meeting.

7.  What is this club “all about”?    🙂  Well, as one member put it “we like to dig”!  But, we also like to share our knowledge and love of gardening with others and have fun!   Check out our website and our public Facebook page to learn more about us, and come to one of our meetings!

8.  A brief club history:   The Garden Club was started in 1941 and was originally a men’s garden club. As the men left to go to war their wives started to take over the responsibilities of the club. In 1949 it was reorganized and federated.

Years ago one had to be sponsored to become a member and there was quite a waiting list. Looking back in our scrapbooks the women were all called by their husband’s name as in Mrs. William Smith, etc.

In 2011 the club voted to withdraw from the State and  National Federation of Garden Clubs and we are now considered a private non-profit organization with over 90 members.
